Outside power, lighting, garden rooms and bars

Outside electrics have to cope with weather, so they're done differently from indoor work: armoured cable, weatherproof fittings and RCD protection on every outdoor circuit. That covers garden sockets, outside lighting and the supply to a shed, office or bar at the bottom of the garden.

Garden rooms, bars and man caves

A proper supply run from the house on armoured cable to a small consumer unit in the outbuilding, then sockets, lighting, heating and data points laid out for how the room will actually be used.

Outside sockets and lighting

Weatherproof sockets for the lawnmower and the hot tub, security and feature lighting, and switching from inside the house where it makes sense.

“Came out when he said he would and replaced a faulty outdoor socket and hooked up my shed to mains power and fitted a socket internally. Very neat done, done quickly. Highly recommend him”

Outdoor & garden rooms: common questions

Does my garden room need its own consumer unit?

Usually, yes. A small board in the outbuilding gives it proper protection and means a fault out there doesn't take the house down.

Is outdoor electrical work notifiable?

New outdoor circuits are notifiable. We certify and notify them ourselves as NAPIT registered work.
